All was neat, not a leaf out of place…

All was neat, not a leaf out of place…

There is something rather beautiful about a neat and tidy garden, or a row of flower pots - everything in its place, carefully arranged, complementary colours or textures; it is often a sight to behold. There can be a real sense of calm, too, walking past - it feels uplifting - it can be a topic of conversation or simply a lovely thing to notice as you go on your way. The nature of a garden is transient - it isn’t ever finished, however hard we try! It is always evolving and changing, budding and blooming, and indeed dying; it forces us to invest in the process because on any day, that momentary ‘finished feeling’ is fleeting, if it exists at all. We learn to enjoy the moments of sowing, planting, watering, repotting, pruning, rearranging and clearing. Enjoying the journey - watching things come to life and grow and change - well, that’s time well spent.
