Watching Dad's beautiful garden become overgrown and wild challenged my thinking. I'd look out to the garden and mutter. I'd tell him that it was too big to manage. I'd suggest finding somewhere smaller. Dad, however, was quite happy to stay where he was. In the years leading up to his death, the garden changed dramatically. It became a haven for wildlife. Fox cubs played, cats roamed and birds nested. I began to see the beauty in that, and hoped that it continued to offer Nature her little oasis. I have a feeling Grandad felt the same and am so grateful that, thanks to an overgrown garden, I now see things differently...
