There are advantages that come with long grass and brambles. Picking ripe blackberries is a joy; have you noticed that each one tastes a little different? It's one of the pleasures of late summer, being out in nature and by chance, coming across blackberries, ready to eat. Grandad's Garden was full of brambles and old plum, pear and apple trees laden with fruit, a sweet scent in the air. And of course, brambles offer secret, tucked away places for nesting birds. I miss those late summer months.
